This study entitled"From independence dream to Ideological conflict: A study of Peter abrahams' A wreath for Udomo" examines the Panafrican struggle for independence and the ensuing resultant conflict as reflected in Peter Abrahams' A wreath for Udomo. It, therefore, aims at exploring the decolonizing process in panafrica as started in the form of dreams and thoughts of some bright intellectuals who were committed to lead the protest movement and to refuse the foreign rule. This work also exposes the internal and external support that is given before the acquisition of independence.

In A wreath for Udomo, it is to realize that the acquired freedom would be hampered by the ideological conflict related to the misinterpretation of independence. This work is based on the hypothesis that the ideological differences among the nationalists hamper the dream for independence. The new historicism as a literary approache centres the discussion as it enables to situate this study in the colonial and the post- colonial realities.
