The study aimed at the assessment of the xriting skill in Burundian private technical secondary schools. It sought to find ansxers to the following hypotheses: the writing skill is a domain that has been neglected by both teachers and pupils, teachers' experience does not significantly influence the teachers' choise of mehod for teaching, the knowledge of Kirundi and French interfere with the learning of English skill and the lack of didactic materials (manual, books) is a hindrance to the teacxhers of English skill. The data was collected by using the following instruments, questionnaires for pupils and teachers, pupils' written test and classroom observation. In addition, the sample random sampling method was used in selecting informants. After collecting data and analyzing them, the research found that writing skill is somehow complicated in secondary schools, teachers were themselves not fascinated by lesson about writing. Furthermore, the weakness of pupils in writing skill is due to the lack of materials. Finally, this study has shown that other kills such as reading, speaking and writing play an important role, and a crucial one in the acquisition of the writing skill ER -
