This study examines poetic dimensions in john Donne's poetry.It explores the different characteristics of metaphysical poetry in Donne's poetry.It investigates the use of metaphor and the forces captured from social-cultural values prevalent in his time that satisfies his attitude of attributing to women 's behavior,our study shows how he manipulates images to symbolize love for women in general and sexual act in particular.We are showing that by portraying the rejection of a wife through some of this poems.It was in the purpose of portraying the way women were treated by men during his time .This study is based on the hypothesis that john Donne through the use of a poetic language captures the contraints of social and sexual relations of his time.However he demontrates that as soon as men will discover the power of sex those problems will reduce.The psychoanalytic approach and formalism are theories adopted in the analysis of the selected poems.
