RESUME,

The present study entitled "influence of large class on the teachers of the learners' performance:case of third form arts classes in selected secondary schools of Gitega commune"mainly attempted to investigate and analyse the influence of large classes on the teachers' assessment of the learners performance,This study is based on research hypotheses.Large class influences negatively the teacgers' assessment of the learners' performance;in large classes,some teachers tests independently of the course aims;tests schould be structured in such a way that they reflect the real level of the learners.The study was conducted in Gitega commune.The population is made up of 462 Third form pupils and 6 teachers from 6 selected large classes .The questionnaire administered to teachers and students was used to collect the data.Through the research,it was found out that the big number of learners within the classrooms constitutes a hindrance the teachers assessment of the learners' performance.It uches the teacher to put emphasis ob some kinds of questions.The number of tests in reduced.Thus,students become victims of large classes.In order to cope with such a situation,education planners should plan for opening up more schools.Teachers have to keep in mind that they have to answer satisfactorily to the learners' needs.Students should study and work with no pretext of the belonging to a large class.
