Résumé,

This work entitled "courtship and marriage in Flora Nwapa's Idu and Efuru" examines, through Flora Nwapa's Idu and Efur , the role eo parents and concerned couple in courtship and the impact that it has on the union between a man and a woman. In addition, this work attempts to show the place of marriage in Igbo society. This is done by examining the commitment of individuals and groups in the desire to have a successful couple. This work anchors on the hypothesis that most marriages in Idu and Efuru fail due to poor courtships. It concludes that the period of courtship creates awareness and enables the future bride and the groom to know themselves better before marriage. It is worth noting that many marriages fail because of a bad foundation which could have been shaped through courtship. We therefore, through this study, call on young men and women who intend to marry to value and make use of the period of courtship to know themselves well before marriage.
