Résumé,

My work deals with the internal structure and meaning of the rundi anthroponyms. Normally, the whole family is involved in the Burundian society and bearing a name is common. It has been a habitual fact that Burundians find themselves not aware of how their names are chosen. This work purports to help people to know the meaning of their respective names. It encourages people who conserve and tell their history through names they give to their children. I applied different methods in ordre to get the reliable data of the study. The instrument of research has been the interview. Eighty informants have been selected using simple random sampling technique. This method was favored because it allows members of population to have the same chance of being selected. The results of the research have clearly that a name and its bearer are at a certain extent linked. The names are classified depending upon their context of use such as : historical names and birth sequence names. It is found out that the structure of a rundi anthroponyn is an agglutination of morphemes each of which having a role to play in the meaning of the whole anthroponym. I concluded work by recommending to further researchers to explore other areas that are not explored in ordre to complete this work.
