It mainly investigates the role of instrumental motivation to the high level of learning English learning during this period. The study also looks at the relationship between student's motivation and their achievement in English. Seventy seven studens studying English as a foreign language at the University of Burundi in Department of English Language and Literature participated in the study. All the participants completed a questionnaire. The results show that students of DELL chose to learn English because of several reasons which reflect their instrumental motivation such as to get a work, to use it through business, to use it when travelling abroad ER -
