  <abstract>RESUME,	


This work sought to make a thorough evaluation of the teaching and learning of the teaching and learning of the reading skill. Three major tools were used to gather data; the learners’ questionnaire, the teachers’ questionnaire and classroom observation.
Result showed that the lack of materials, the use of inappropriate teaching methods, the shortage of well trained teachers as well as the lack of substantive practice is among the problems obstructing the comprehensive teaching and learning of the reading skill in Giheta commune. 
In the light of the above findings, a number of recommendations were formulated to the following education partners: teachers, pupils headmasters, BEPES, Government, Future researchers.
