RESUME,

This work examines dereliction in Flora Nwapa's Efuru and toni Morrison's The bluest Eye with the aim of showing that failure applies to both men and women.It then analyses the elements of derelictiontrough which the failure to fulfill one's obligations is portrayed.To achieve this aim,the reseacher x-rays characters aptitude in accomplishing the dities society expects of them.So,Characters from both novels undre study are compared and contrasted and it is the contention of this tudy to deduce from the analysis that both male and female characters fail in their duties.This study and Toni Morrisson's the bluest Eye is both male and famale.Contextualizing the novels under study in their socio-cultural environments,this study concluded that dereliction applies to both sexes.
