RESUME,
This study sets out to identify the socio-cultural prerequisites for the proper understanding of some Kirundi songs, especially lullabies. It shows how the words of language are symbolically displayed through a literary process via sociolinguistics. To understand songs, especially lullabies, one should have knowledge of the culture of the society in which those songs are uttered . For collecting the data,I used an interview with a questionnaire. To analyzing,i found out that no one can understand what an item means without having knowledge of the society in which it is used.
