This work entitled" Marriage and the Issue of choice in Charles Dickens' Hard times" aims at analyzing the characteristics of both bourgeois and proletarian marriages within the utilitation philophy.Employing the Marxist and New Historicusm approaches,the work analyses the bourgeois and proletarians marriages to show their similarities as well as their differences.This work is based on the hypothetical premise that in Haed times,Charles Dichens portray marriage as a materialistic union.As a result of this materialistic policy,the marriage he presents are failed emotional relations.The analysis of the marriages taken from both classes that Dickens considered marriage as a purely materiastic union.The study shows tat both the bourgeois and the proletarian classes have failed marriages and this failure results from economic forces within marriages
