RESUME

This study set out to investigate what English teaching strategies are and how these strategies are applied to classroom activities. This work intended to test a number of hypotheses that were formulated for the research. To find out answers to the stated questions, the teachers' and the students" questionnaires were administered. The major findings revealed that the English teaching strategies adopted by teachers include teacher-centered teaching strategies and learner-centered teaching strategies. However, teacher-centered teaching strategies also called traditional teaching methods were mostly used. The study was carried out in ten schools of the Bururi province in which tranty-three English teachers and one hundred and forty five students were questioned. A conclusion and recommendations were drawn and formulated in the light of the research findings.
