Spelling errors though somewha are necessary, may some of the times hinder. the teaching/learning process in Arts 3rd Forms. Mos of these errors are due to the French interference in English. My study articulates on five chapters. The firs chapter whch is general introduction provides the readers with some information related to the topic under investigation. It describes the background of the study, statement of the problem, research questions, motivation of the study, aim of the sudy, scope of the study and justification of the study. The second chapter which s literature review is concerned with the literature in connection with the topic under sudy. It looks at the different works of researchers whose topics have to do with the present study. The third chapter shows different methods and strategies to use o conduc this study. The instruments used are : he classroom observation, teachers' questionnaire, and dictation and composition exercses. The fourth chapter, the very body of the work, deals with the data presentation and analysis, and the interpretation of the findings. The concluding chapter consists of a general conclusion and some recommendation that can be helphul to improve the teaching of the spelling skill in secondary schools. Recommendations were addressed to teachers, pupils, material designers, the government, donors and the further researchers. We expect all the people involved n Burundian education to do ther best to make the pupils be succssful when using the English language. skills especially the writing skill ER -
