This study examines woman and family structure and how she is treated in a patriarchal society especially in Victorian period as it is seen in Kate Chopin's The Awakening. It analyses how conformist and non-conformist women are treated according to how both the  family and the society are structured. This study also assesses the relationships between woman and husband in the completion of their duties as members of the Creole society. It also accentuates on metherhood and how it is seen by conformist and non-conformist women whereas it is viewed as an important social obligation which has to be fulfilled by every Creole married woman. This study equally aims at Chopin's protagonist and her society. This work anchors on the hypothesis that there is a confrontation between conformist and non-conformist women in their societies, where conformist women are accepted and non-conformist are not accepted. Built against the Feminist theory, this work concludes that women have to conform themslves to the structure of both the family and the society if not they are considered outcasts
