N2  - This work examines colonisation, the struggle for independence and the subsequent need to collaborate with the former colonialist is a strategy for development in Peter Abrahams' A Wreath for Udomo.  It traces the historical phases by which Panafrica passes, from colonialism to independence.  In order to run the Panafricans unchecked, the colonial administration sends few Panafricans to study in Europe and America.  Howev er, the dream of independence starts among these intellectuals of the Diaspora as they come back home to initiate the sstruggle  for independence in their respecive countries.  This work explores the satisfaction of the masses at the dawn of the independence of Panafrica  and the attempt of some of the new leaders to seek technical help from the colonialists. This study anchors on the hypothesis that Panafricans feel so dominated b y colonialists that they rush to struggle for independence and that tribalists finally disagree with the new leader on the preeminence of the former colonial masters o the political scene in Peter Abrahams" A Wreath for Udomo
