this work examines some aspects of African tradition at the dawn of colonialism. We intended to show the attitude of some Africans towards their tradition especially with the the preaching of christian missionaries in Kenjo Jumbam's The White Man of God and Mongo Beti's Poor Christ of Bomba.In the course of the study, we tried to expose the attachment of Africans to some of the practices which are condemned by Christians.Our workequally examines the hypocrisy of the missionaries and showes how this made their mission not only difficult but also questionable. This work, therefore, gave a picture of blacks as conceived in the mind of white men.Written against the backdrop of new historicism, this work settles on the note that the attachment of Africans to some aspects of their traditional practices made the work of the whitemissionaries difficult. The work therefore reveals the exploitative and hypocritical tendencies of the christian"missionaries"
